Fair City star Jim Bartley has told RTÉ Entertainment that viewers are in for heart, humour and a shock when his character Bela and Eamon Morrissey's Cass wed on Sunday's episode on RTÉ One.
The old friends are tying the knot so that Cass will always have somewhere to live - without an inheritance tax bill.
Bartley, whose friendship with Morrissey stretches back to when they first worked together in the Abbey Theatre in the 1960s, said they are both delighted to share their characters' big day in a storyline with a bit of everything.
"When the story came up, it was great - I was looking forward to it," he said. "But then I realised it had a serious side to it as well. It's a marriage of practicality - they're looking after each other."
This being soap, fans will also get some laughs as Cass celebrates his (tall) tales of travel in his choice of wedding outfit.
"I hadn't seen the outfit until the day we were recording it," laughed Bartley. "It's no less than I expected, but probably demure compared to what Bella really thought he'd wear! Eamon is the master of the straight face. I corpse [crack up]!"
There's also a twist, but Bartley is tight-lipped about how that will play out, only saying that fans can find out more on Sunday on RTÉ One at 8:30pm.
Fair City airs on RTÉ One on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
