ITV soap Emmerdale halted filming yesterday "as a mark of respect" after a crew member passed away.

"We can confirm an Emmerdale crew member has very sadly passed away. Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague," a spokesperson for the show said.

"As a mark of respect, we have stood filming down for today. We'd like to abide by the family's wishes for privacy at this very sad time and we'd ask the media to be respectful of this."

Emmerdale dedicated an episode of the rural soap to late props manager Cliff Perry after he passed away last year.

At the end of an episode in November an on-screen message read: "In memory of much-loved crew member Cliff Perry 1959-2020."
