The father of actor Jamie Dornan, Professor Jim Dornan, has died in Northern Ireland at the age of 73.
During his successful career Dornan, a retired obstetrician and gynaecologist, became a professor of Foetal Medicine at Queen's University Belfast from 1995 to 2012. He was also the senior vice-president of the Royal College of Gynaecologists from 2004 to 2006.
In a Twitter message on Monday morning, the BBC NI Health Correspondent, Marie-Louise Connolly, said: "It is with much sadness that I am writing that Professor Jim Dornan has died.
"Hard to accept that someone with so much life, wit, and full of advice and laughter has left this world. A true friend. Thoughts are with his family and medical friends around the world. RIP Jim."

Jim was also known for making regular cameo appearances in popular TV shows. He featured in the third series of ITV drama Marcella as a deputy chief constable.
At the time, he told Sunday Life: "It (the role) was pure chance. I was dining with my cousin at General Merchants on the Newtownards Road about two years ago when the director asked his companion who I was because I was familiar-looking.
"He told her he'd like me for a wee cameo, so that was that. I did have about two lines as well, but they seem to have ended up on the cutting room floor."

He also had a cameo in The Fall as a policeman, in which son Jamie played a serial killer.
Jim Dornan's first wife, Lorna, died from pancreatic cancer in 1998. They had three children. He later remarried leading gynaecologist Samina Dornan.
