EastEnders star Jake Wood has agreed to "officiate a wedding" next year in character as Albert Square's Max Branning.

The actor shared the news with his followers on Instagram after he was contacted by a fan with the novel proposal.

"Looks like I'm officiating a wedding next year as Max Branning," said the actor. "What have I got myself into?"

Wood shared screenshots of his exchange with the fan.

"Would you officiate my wedding as Max Branning?" they asked. "Nothing weird. Non-religious. Thanks."

Replying with cry-laughing emojis, Wood asked: "When is it?"

When the fan said April 2022, Wood replied: "I'll do it!"

"If you're Max then surely you'll end up running off with the bride!" joked another fan on the post.

Wood's exit scenes from EastEnders aired last month.

EastEnders airs on RTÉ One and BBC One on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
