Derry punk trio CHERYM have released their new song, Kisses on My Cards. We asked them the BIG questions . . .
The band, who have signed with Alcopops! Records in London, plan a number of tracks this year in preparation for a full EP.
Speaking about the new track, vocalist Hannah Richardson says: "Kisses On My Cards is a power pop banger about my bi-sexual self-falling in love with a guy for the first time in a long time.
"All the right signals are there, but both parties are too weird 'n' awkward to know how to proceed. It’s an anthem for all hot stubborn gays of the world feeling the emotional pressures of admitting to an attraction without the whole ‘my mate wants to know will you kiss her?’ routine."
Tell us three things about yourself?
We are the OG Derry grrls, scooter - jumping all over the world is our hype song and Hannah was possessed by a ghost (footage to be released).
How would you describe your music?
Bubble-gum rock with a side of punk energy.
Who are your musical inspirations?
We’re all so different so we will do one each : Hannah = Charley Bliss, Nyree = Shania Twain and Alannagh = Bring Me The Horizon.
How are you occupying yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?
We started working on new songs, got them recorded over in Vada with our Boi George.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Our fav songs would be: Alannagh = Babymetal - Pa Pa Ya, Hannah = Megan the Stallion - Girls in the Hood, and Nyree = Tina Turner - The Best.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Hannah = "I just wanna dance, I don’t really care, I just wanna dance, I don’t really care. Who’s that chick? Who’s that chick?" Alannagh = "No one came to cuff you they just handed you the chains", and Nyree = "You know I’d rather be alone, than be without you".
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
Nyree = Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal, Alannagh = Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country, and Hannah = Blink 182 - Feeling This.
