Carlow-based electronic/pop artist Slaney has released her new song, Chameleon. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

She started writing and recording music with songwriter/producer Michael Hopkins in 2017 and they write and record everything from their home studio in Co. Kildare.

The 24-year-old grew up in the countryside near Tullow and comes from a very musical background, her father Niall Power drummed for Bob Geldof, Westlife and many more.

Slaney is also an actress and has studied at The Irish College of Music Theatre.

She recently appeared in the hit TV series Normal People as Sophie for Hulu, BBC and RTÉ. She will also be appearing in Apple TV+'s adaptation of Isaac Asimov's sci-fi epic Foundation, which was partially made at Limerick's Troy Studios, and airs this Autumn.

Tell us three things about yourself?

I am named after the river Slaney.

I'm also an actress.

I love nature and being outdoors.

How would you describe your music?

My music overall would be best described as feel-good pop. I’m influenced by a lot of different genres and I think you can hear that in my music.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Some artists that really inspire me are Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, The Carpenters, Carol King, Tracy Chapman, Stevie Wonder, Grace Jones, Kate Bush, and Sade.

How are you occupying yourself during the lockdown?

Myself and my producer Michael Hopkins set up a studio in our apartment so that we could write and record from home. We spent most of the lockdown writing and recording new songs that we plan to release this year.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters. I could listen to this song over and over!
