First Dates' Mateo Saina said he had to "smile with his eyes" for the new series while wearing a face mask in the restaurant.
Mateo was speaking to Maura Derrane and Dáithí Ó Sé on RTÉ One's Today Show and spoke about the challenges with filming the latest series of the dating show.
"We had to go the extra mile, you had to smile with your eyes and talk more fluently," he said when speaking about the two meter distancing restrictions and the necessity to wear face masks.
Mateo also said he feels the show has become "a proper platform for dating" in Ireland and that people aren't going on to just "promote themselves" on television.
Next week’s episode will see former Big Brother and Dancing with the Stars contestant Hughie Maughan looking for love. Mateo teased the second episode of the current season as being "great fun."
"He was cool, he’s one of those characters who brightens up the room," Mateo said of Hughie.
While Mateo may have watch sparks fly (or not) between the daters, sparks flew a number of years ago for him in his personal life.
Mateo has been engaged to his fiancee for four years and they have one child together, with another baby due in May.
"A corona baby," he laughed.
First Dates continues on Thurdays at 9.35pm on RTÉ 2.
Keep up with the Today Show weekdays on RTÉ One.
