Kevin Hart's former personal shopper has been charged with stealing more than $1 million from the actor by making unauthorised purchases with the US star's credit cards.

Dylan Jason Syer, who began working with Hart in 2015, allegedly used the Jumanji actor's credit cards fraudulently between October 2017 and February 2019.

The 29-year-old has been charged with grand larceny in the first and second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the first and second degree, identity theft in the first degree and scheme to defraud in the first degree.

If convicted, Mr Syer, from Long Island City in New York, faces up to 25 years in prison. He is due to return to court on 17 February.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said the defendant legitimately gained access to the actor's credit cards when he was hired to obtain several items for Hart through his personal shopping business, Sire Consulting, LLC.

But according to prosecutors, Syer went on to make more than $1 million worth of "unauthorized charges on those credit cards over the course of 19 months".

It is believed that Syer used the money to make luxurious purchased including Louis Vuitton bags and Patek Philippe watches. The DA said he often posted pictures of the purchases on Instagram.

The DA also said that Syer charged about $923,000 on Hart's credit cards combined with $240,000 worth of jewellery and watches bought from a California jeweller.

Hart earned $39m from his acting, comedy and sponsorships in 2020, according to Forbes.
