Britain's National Health Service has launched a video featuring Elton John and Michael Caine helping people by the art of gentle persuasion to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

In the video, both iconic Englishmen reassure the public that the vaccines are perfectly safe and effective, and are the best way to deal with what Elton describes as "this wretched disease."

In the 90-second film, the Rocket Man singer pretends he is doing an audition for an advertisement to promote vaccination.

He acts out taking the needle before he commences singing his 1983 hit single, I'm Still Standing. There are numerous takes before the video shoot's director says: "Thanks, Elton, we will let you know."

Elton: Vaccine-friendly

"Well, at this short notice you won’t find anyone bigger," the singer counters.

Michael Caine then appears and declares that the vaccination 'didn’t hurt’, adding his catchphrase, "Not many people know that."

"I wanted to take part in this film to help show people the benefits of getting vaccinated and how it helps protect ourselves and the people we love," says Elton.

Ian McKellan: "euphoric"

"The more people in society who get vaccinated, the more chance there is of eradicating the national Covid pandemic.

"It’s really important to know that the vaccines have all been through and met the necessary safety and quality standards."

The 73-year old singer and the 87-year-old actor have both had the vaccine. 

The duo are the latest celebrities to assist the NHS in the vaccine initiative.

Football manager Harry Redknapp, singer Tom Jones, nature programme presenter David Attenborough, TV chefs Prue Leith and Mary Berry, and actress Dame Judi Dench have also been vaccinated and have broadcast the fact.

Actor Ian McKellen said he was "euphoric" to receive his first dose in December. "I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone," he tweeted.
