Well-known sci-fi fan George Clooney is reported to be rebooting the classic Buck Rogers adventure series for television. He will direct and star in the new show, but his role has not been disclosed.

Buck Rogers is the lead character in Philip Francis Nowlan's 1928 novella Armageddon 2419 A.D. and was the hero of a syndicated comic strip which debuted in 1929, and was later adapted for radio in, a film serial, and two television series.

He pre-dates the more famous Flash Gordon character and was introduced to a whole new generation in the 1980s in a new TV series starring Gil Gerrard in the lead role, Erin Gray as Wilma Deering, and an in no way annoying robot named Twiki.

Clooney, who has previously boldly gone in sci-fi movies Solaris, Gravity, and The Midnight Sky, is working on the reboot with writer Brian K. Vaughan, who worked on Lost and the new Y: The Last Man series on the FX channel.
