Extra funding is to be made available for broadcasters to produce programmes featuring live music, and which help to address the challenges faced by the live music sector due to Covid-19.
The funds form part of the Sound and Vision scheme, coordinated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI).
A total of €6.9m worth of funding was announced on Wednesday, with €1.4m ringfenced for live music support.
The BAI said it is encouraging submissions from projects across all formats and genres from broadcasters that can provide a platform for music industry professionals who have predominantly worked in the live sector.
Minister for Arts Catherine Martin, whose department provided the funding for the live music projects, said the money will complement other initiatives put in place to support the sector, which has been badly damaged by the pandemic.
