This Australian drama tells the true story of Sam Bloom (Naomi Watts) a young mother whose world is turned upside down after a near-fatal accident leaves her unable to walk.

Sam's husband, (Andrew Lincoln), her three young boys and her mother (Jacki Weaver), are struggling to adjust to their new situation when an unlikely ally enters their world in the form of an injured baby magpie they name Penguin.

The bird’s arrival is a welcome distraction for the Bloom family, eventually making a profound difference in the family's life.

This week's look at notable love stories in Irish history focuses on legendary Dubliner Oscar Wilde's love affair with Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas in Victorian London - an affair that cost him his family, his livelihood, his fame and ultimately his life.

Wilde threw every caution to the wind in this reckless relationship, which caused quite a scandal at the time, towards the end of the 19th Century.

At the height of his fame as a playwright and as the world's first international celebrity Wilde drew the wrath of Bosie's father, the Marquess of Queensbury who set out to utterly destroy Wilde and his reputation forever.

Jay Blades and the team bring four treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life.

First is a poignant story of a very precious keepsake.

Rose Werner and her sister Linda have travelled from Essex in the hope that Suzie Fletcher can turn her expertise to a decorative leather box that they hold dear. It belonged to Rose’s late husband Jim.

He arrived in the UK as a teenage refugee just before the Second World War, thanks to the Kindertransport scheme.

Sadly he never saw his family again, and this treasured box was his only link to his German Jewish heritage.

Grand Designs, 9.00pm, Channel 4

Kevin McCloud follows more of Britain's most ambitious self-building projects, as intrepid individuals attempt to design and construct the home of their dreams.

Energy conservationist Andrew has decided to put his money where his mouth is by sinking all his savings into building a radical, self-heating home for his family - the first of its kind in the UK.

Remarkably, he aims to heat the house all year round by storing the warmth of the summer sun into insulated earth banks over and around the house, and then drawing the warmth back into the living spaces in winter.

Documentary charting the rise and fall of John DeLorean and his doomed attempt to build the sports car of the future in 1980s’ war-torn Belfast.

The programme features rare and unseen footage filmed by Oscar-winning directors DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, offering the first in-depth psychological profile of DeLorean.

Rose, 10.00pm, Sky Arts

Taking on the role made famous by Olympia Dukakis, Dame Maureen Lipman stars in the Hope Mill Theatre production of Rose, playing the titular character – a woman shaped by her history.

This sharply drawn portrait of a feisty Jewish woman blends the personal with the political as it traces Rose's story from the devastation of Nazi-ruled Europe to conquering the American dream.

Jack the Ripper - The Case Reopened, 11.10pm, RTÉ2

Silent Witness star Emilia Fox and Professor David Wilson re-examine the infamous murders, which took place in the Whitechapel district of London in the late 19th century.

In 1888 the most infamous serial killer of all time, Jack the Ripper, began his reign of terror in the East End of London. Between August and November, five horrifically violent murders took place in Whitechapel.

There was a huge manhunt, but the Ripper was never caught. Since then there has been endless speculation about who the Ripper was, what motivated his crimes, and how the killer escaped justice.
