The pandemic has left the entertainment industry across the world in dire straits, but Oklahoma band The Flaming Lips have defied the odds with their first pair of coronavirus-safe "space bubble" concerts.

On Friday and Saturday at the Criterion venue in their hometown, the alternative rock band took to the stage inside giant inflatable balloons, playing to a crowd that was also cocooned in balloons.

The idea stems from frontman Wayne Coyne's own bubble that he usually uses to roll over fans during Flaming Lips concerts.

The audience was safely distancing in front of the stage in 100 such balls that could each hold up to three people.
