Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has revealed the group are in the "early stages" of trying to "write a record", a follow-up to 2018's acclaimed Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.
The 34-year-old musician admits like many artists they have been "faced with various obstacles" amid the pandemic, but admits the band are eager to get new music out.
Speaking on Instagram Live, he said: "There's the early stages of trying to write a record but faced with the obvious obstacles," he said, adding: "Being separated by the sea is one of them."
"We're all eager to do it – we would have been doing it by now in a normal time. There’s definitely a desire from our end to do a new record, as soon as we can."

Helders went on to say that he is "always tinkering on machines and synths" at his home in Los Angeles. "I’ve got drums here," he said, adding: "[I’m] always trying to improve on and study certain things."
Arctic Monkeys released their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, 15 years ago, in January 2006.
