Pick of the Day

RTÉ Investigates: Belturbet, A Bomb That Time Forgot, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

This special programme looks at a report on the attack by loyalist paramilitaries in Belturbet, Co Cavan, on December 28, 1972, when a car bomb killed teenagers Geraldine O’Reilly (15) and Patrick Stanley (16).

Nobody claimed responsibility for the bombing but security services believe the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) carried out the attack.

The attack happened just a few weeks after two people were killed and 127 injured when two car bombs exploded in the centre of Dublin.

On the same day as the Belturbet bombing, two other bombs exploded in other border counties, without incurring fatalities.

The three bombs exploded within 30 minutes of each other.

Should you meddle with a classic? Nigella thinks that in the case of her crab mac ’n’ cheese, it’s a must. She also cooks up chocolate cookies, chicken with orzo and a rice-filled dessert.
