Three Eddie Van Halen guitars sold for in excess of $422,000 (€347,720) during Julien’s Auctions’ annual Icons and Idols Trilogy: Rock ‘n’ Roll Auction.
The iconic musician died in October, aged 65, following a battle with lung cancer.
Variants of the Van Halen’s Frankenstrat were among the instruments, which fetched the biggest bids over two days and almost 900 items for auction, reports Rolling Stone.
The musician's Kramer electric guitar, which he built with guitar tech Matt Bruck at his home studio, sold for $231,250 (€190,528.)
The winning bid for his 2004 EVH Charvel Art Series electric guitar was $140,800 (€116,005). A non-playing prop guitar, which was once in the hands of child actor Bryan Hitchcock, who played a young in the band’s Hot for Teacher video, sold for $50,000 (€41,191).
Also at the auction, two Fender guitars, which were once smashed by Kurt Cobain, sold for a combined $281,600, Bob Marley’s first guitar to come to auction sold for $153,600 (€126,539), while a 1960s Hammond B-3 organ played by Greg Allman went for $102,400 (€84,359).
Pete Townshend's first guitar, a 1936 Radiotone cello guitar, fetched $41,600 (€34,252). Jimi Hendrix’s Octavia pedal, used on live album Band of Gypsys ,went for $70,400 (€57,966).
Finally, a Paul McCartney Texan FT-79 acoustic guitar, signed by the artist, secured $54,400 (€44,792).
