Former ER and The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies has become the latest star to join the cast of Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show.

The TV newsroom show stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon as well as Steve Carell, and is inspired by Brian Stelter's book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV.

Margulies will play the recurring role of UBA News' newest talking head, Laura Peterson. The Morning Show's second season, which is currently in production in Los Angeles, is set to surface on Apple TV+ in 2021.

Since The Good Wife ended in 2016, Margulies has appeared in AMC’s dark comedy Dietland, season one of the National Geographic thriller The Hot Zone and season five of Showtime drama Billions.

In 2019, Margulies came close to reprising her Emmy-winning Good Wife role of Alicia Florrick for the third season of the CBS spin-off series The Good Fight.

She couldn't agree a fee with CBS, who wanted to pay her a guest star rate rather than her regular fee. So no Alicia.

"I’m not a guest star; I started the whole thing with The Good Wife," Margulies said at the time. "I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay.

"If Jon Hamm came back for a Mad Men spinoff or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24 spin-off, they would be paid."
