Lauded as one of Ireland's most promising folk artists, in 2019 Larkin was awarded The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Artist in Residence. She has supported Rufus Wainwright, Lisa O'Neill and Joshua Burnside and performed at Ireland Music Week, Output, Other Voices in Belfast and Ballina.
Herd debut album, Notes for A Maiden Warrior, is due for release Spring 2021.
Tell us three things about yourself?
I love Westlife, Dolly Parton and wiggling.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as folk, with a little bit of an untold story.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, KT Tunstall, Newton Faulkner, Andy McKee - and my peers who I'm incredibly lucky to be friends with, Naoise Roo, Sive and King Cedar!
How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?
In the first two days I had shaved my head and started my sourdough starter, and I'm not saying I'm a trendsetter - but maybe that's true! I did a lot of Sudoku, listened to a lot of radio - and bought newspapers for the first time since I was a teenager. I bought the Irish Times every Saturday and I made a very special Saturday morning breakfast for myself and my housemates - which was the highlight of our week!
What’s your favourite song right now?
Dusty Trails by Lucius.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Lisa O'Neill's Blackbird - "The way I imagined love was wrong.'
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
Witchy Woman - The Eagles.
Where can people find your music/more information?
Spotify, Bandcamp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter - just type in Dani Larkin and you will find me! My debut album Notes for A Maiden Warrior is coming out Spring 2021, and I can't wait to share it with you!
