Fabulously named Dublin duo Skanger are set to release A Chance to Count the Cost, a new song that plays tribute to 80s dance culture and the end of night ritual of the slow set.
The follow-up to their debut single, Condolences, the new track is released on January 11tn, 2021.
Speaking about the new song, Skanger say, "In 1980's club culture there was a certain time of the evening when the music would pause as a gush of dry ice billowed across the dance floor.
"This was the signal for the ancient mating ritual of 'the slow dance’. As the sound of cheesy pop dissipated into the shadow of the dry ice, prospective lovers would nervously exchange glances across the dance floor hoping for some Saturday night romance (and maybe even miss the last bus home)."

Citing influences such as Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, The Smiths, Beach House, The Blue Nile and My Bloody Valentine, Skanger are Healy (The Josephs, The Subtonics, Elevens, The Innocent Bystander) and Colin Morris (Sunbear, Ruby Tail Lights, Frank movie soundtrack).
Skanger are joined on additional vocals on A Chance to Count the Cost by jazz vocalist Jenna Harris, who is best known for performing with her band Berri.
The duo are currently working on their debut album set for release next year.
