They first came into our lives way back in 1940 and now cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry are scampering into the 21st century with their own live-action animated movie next year.
Veteran character voice actor Frank Welker, who's worked on everything from Scooby Doo to The Simpsons, will voice the two titular cartoon characters and the cast features Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Ken Jeong, Rob Delaney and Pallavi Sharda.
Comparisons are already being made with animation hybrids such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam, but Tom and Jerry proved they were way ahead of the pack when they cameoed in 1945 MGM musical Anchors Aweigh, in which Jerry performed a dance number with Gene Kelly.

The warring duo also starred in 1993’s Tom and Jerry: The Movie.
In the new film, simply titled Tom and Jerry, Jerry (for all you young people out there, that’s the mouse) moves into New York City’s swankiest hotel just before "the wedding of the century."
A horrified wedding planner (Moretz) drafts in Tom to get shot of the vermin and naturally the ensuing cat and mouse showdown causes chaos.
What was it WC Fields said about working with children and animals . . . ?
