Irish Egyptian singer Shaefri was surprised to have attracted the attention of the Irish Consulate in Cairo after her song Girl was reviewed in an Egyptian publication.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment about attracting diplomatic attention, she said: "It was quite surreal! It's amazing how these things travel and to see who is keeping an eye on what you're up to, it's really cool what these things can open up."

The 27-year-old singer, whose mother is from Mayo and who herself has lived some time in the Clew Bay area of Mayo, has been writing music since she was 12 years old.

Despite her youth, the singer is already on to her second album and last month could be heard singing on Ireland Music Week.

The Say You''ll Be There Singer recently impressed the audiences of the Ireland Music Week and had Hot Press gushing over her music describing the style as "using bright sonic elements and lush harmonies to amplify her identity."

The singer has described her Irish Egyptian blended life as "just really good fun" and said she enjoys "seeing the parallels in both cultures."

"My family is definitely a big blend of loving, loud chaos when we're all together and you see that in both sides, the humour, the fun, the lightheartedness."

Shaefri will be doing a full virtual set on Instagram very soon, check in to @shaefri on Instagram for more.
