Multinantional metallers Surma release their new album, The Light Within, this Friday. We ask singer Viktorie Surmøvá the BIG questions...

Tell us three things about yourself?

I am an animal lover - I literally grew up in the forest playing with animals - I am addicted to music and I am also a very impatient person.

How would you describe your music?

It is melodic, straightforward, epic, a bit progressive and it is metal!

Who are your musical inspirations?

It began with Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Tarja Turunen years ago. Now I admire Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Marcela Bovio, Tatiana Shmailyuk (Jinjer), Eivør and many more...

How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I was watching Netflix, YouTube, cleaning the flat, taking care of Heri [Joensen, partner and Surma guitarist] and doing some body and singing exercises. Also, I am doing videos for my Patrons on Patreon.

What's your favourite song right now?

I am just so indecisive. Maybe Nothing to Fear by Eivør.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. I love this particular part: "My fall will be for you." I wanted to make a tattoo of it. It is a reference to what I would do for music.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

Then it would be one of mine! I would go crazy, but at least I would stay proud of what I made. I guess Downfall from the new album.
