Dublin minimalist and contemporary classical composer BK Pepper has released his new song, Colours, ahead of his debut album, Territories, which is out on November 20. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

Partially recorded in Abbey Road as well as with a string orchestra in an abandoned swimming pool in London, the album is a neo-classical mix of piano, strings and electronics.

Speaking about the new release, BK says, "The theme of Territories reflects how borders have become increasingly visible in recent years, with migration, trade disputes and now a global pandemic reshaping how territories are perceived, defined and enforced around the world."

Tell us three things about yourself?

BK Pepper icentre) in Abbey Road

I'm a composer and producer from Dublin.

My first album, Territories, is out on November 20th.

The album was recorded in abbey road and a converted swimming pool in London before lockdown and finished in Dublin.

How would you describe your music?

Territories is out on November 20

It's an instrumental mix of piano, strings and electronics. Genre wise, it's been called neoclassical, whatever that is.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Radiohead have always been a huge inspiration for me. I grew up listening to their albums so intensely and each record sound tracked that time of my life. Also, a big fan of Björk and Sigur Ros.

Playing the trombone in orchestras for years I have been lucky enough to play some amazing classical music too. Stravinsky and Shostakovich were composers who made a huge impression on me and I always go back to revisit.

How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I've been lucky that my studio is at the end of my garden. So, I have been working intensely on Territories. Otherwise it's been a busy time home schooling and dog walking!

What's your favourite song right now?

Max Richter - Mercy.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Really hard to pick one. I'm in the middle of yet another intense Beatles phase, so this lyric from Strawberry Fields Forever: "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see"

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

It would be a disaster to only have one as there is so much amazing music old and new. But again, as I'm in the phase at the moment, I'm going for A Day in the Life by The Beatles.

Where can people find your music/more information?

My first single Colours is on all the streaming sites now. I am most active on Instagram, but I am on all the social media sites and my website.
