Adele plays it for laughs as Saturday Night Live host

Adele showed her comedy chops when she appeared as guest host of Saturday Night Live in the US, starring in a number of skits and even bursting into song during one of the sketches.

In her opening monologue, Adele credited Saturday Night Live with helping her break the US when she first appeared as a musical guest "12 very long years ago".

She told the audience that she would not be singing on the show because her new album, the follow-up to 2015's 25, isn't finished and she would "rather put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens".

However, appearing as a contestant on the spoof of dating show The Bachelor, Adele upstaged her fellow romantic hopefuls with renditions of When We Were Young, Hello, Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You.
