Tom Hanks stars in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood, Star Trek: Discovery returns for a third run, there's plenty of chat on The Late Late and Graham Norton shows, and White Riot looks at the Rock Against Racism movement . . .

Pick of the Day

A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood, Sky Cinema & NOW TV

Whilst relatively unknown this side of the Atlantic, in the US Mister Rogers is a pioneer in children’s television, being one of the first faces on television to talk directly to children at their level.

This timely story - based on Fred Rogers real-life friendship with journalist Tom Junod - is one of kindness triumphing over cynicism.

When jaded magazine writer Tom (Matthew Rhys) is told to dig up some dirt on Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks in an Oscar-nominated role) he instead overcomes his scepticism and learns about empathy, kindness and decency from America’s most beloved neighbour.

French football coach Arsene Wenger, British broadcaster Piers Morgan, rugby star Rob Kearney, and architect Dermot Bannon will also be talking to Ryan, and Wild Youth will perform their latest single, Next to You, and speak about their work with Shine a Light for Focus Ireland.

The Graham Norton Show, 10.45pm, BBC One

With Graham back in the studio, and many of his guests present rather than online, this current run of the long-running chat show is much better than its early lockdown version.

Rubika Shah's award-winning and energising film charts a vital musical protest movement.

Rock Against Racism (RAR) was formed in 1976, prompted by 'music’s biggest colonialist’ Eric Clapton and his support of racist MP Enoch Powell.

The film blends fresh interviews with queasy archive footage to recreate a hostile environment of anti-immigrant hysteria and National Front marches.

The campaign grew from Hoxton fanzine roots to 1978’s huge antifascist carnival in Victoria Park, featuring X-Ray Spex, Steel Pulse and punk pioneers The Clash.

Sir Cliff Richard at the BBC, 9.50pm, BBC Four

Harry Webb aka Cliff Richard turned 80 two days ago, and so the BBC celebrate the Peter Pan of pop’s milestone with a selection of his performances down so many decades.

Here's a personal favourite:
