Mindy Kaling has said she was initially "nervous" writing the script for Legally Blonde 3, but admits the process turned out to be "really fun".
The 41-year-old actress-and-writer, who has co-penned the script for the third instalment in the comedy franchise with Dan Goor, which is set to see Reese Witherspoon reprise her much-loved role as Harvard graduate Elle Woods, said the highly-anticipated flick is going to be a "great movie".
Appearing on Good Morning America, Kaling said: "I've been working with Reese on a couple of movies and we’ve been friends for a while and I have always quoted the movies to her.
"It’s been over 20 years since she did the first movie and she asked me, 'You know, I’d really love to revisit this character'.
"I was nervous because the movie is so iconic but then I thought it would be really fun to see that character in her 40s. What is Elle Woods dealing with as a 41-year-old woman?"
"I think it’s going to be a great movie for Reese and people are gonna love to see her in this part."
In June 2018, it was confirmed that the planned threequel was set to be written by the original film's scribes Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah.
In May, Deadline reported that the new script will have an "entirely new fresh spin" on previous workings and will be co-written by Goor, who is known for writing The Daily Show and Late Night With Conan O'Brien, alongside Kaling.
This isn't the first time Kaling and Goor have teamed-up up as they are currently working on on an upcoming wedding comedy for Universal.
Witherspoon will produce the movie through her Hello Sunshine studio alongside original producer Marc Platt.
