YouTube star HRVY, who is due to take part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing competition, has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 21-year-old singer shared the news on social media telling his fans that he does not have any symptoms and is now isolating for 10 days.

He wrote: "hi, wasn't gonna worry anyone and say anything but now the story's out, i have coronavirus, I'm all good, no symptoms, just isolating for the next 10 days. already super bored so prepare yourselves for my Tik toks."

A BBC spokesman confirmed a member of the Strictly Come Dancing group had tested positive.

They added: "We have rigorous protocols in place to manage Covid-19 as the safety of all those involved in the production is paramount."

It is understood HRVY is still set to take part in the launch show, depending on a negative test result, and that he only came into contact with a handful of the production crew.

They all then isolated and got tested and it is believed there was a minimal impact on production.

This year's Strictly is shorter than usual due to the pandemic. The launch show will air on October 17 while the first live show will be broadcast on October 24, head judge Shirley Ballas said.

Bruno Tonioli will initially be absent from the Saturday night judging panel because he was unable to travel from the US where he works on Dancing With The Stars, but he is set to appear full-time towards the end of the series.

HRVY will be joining other contestants including comedian Bill Bailey, former home secretary Jacqui Smith, actress Caroline Quentin, reality star Jamie Laing and boxer Nicola Adams, who will compete on Strictly as part of the BBC One show's first same-sex couple.

Discussing joining the show, HRVY said: "I'm proper nervous but I'm buzzing. I don't think it's the dancing - it's the tight shirts and the tight trousers."

He said: "I've grown up watching it. I can't wait for the challenge.

"I really want to win... If I go out on the first week I'll have to change my name and leave the country!"
