AC/DC have announced a reunion six years after the release of their last album and a series of upheavals in the ranks of the veteran band.
The Australian band, who formed in 1973 and who have sold over 200 million records, posted a picture on their Instagram account of their latest line-up and it sees previously departed vocalist Brian Johnson, bassist Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd back in the fold.
Johnson had been the band's frontman since 1980, following the death of original singer Bon Scott, but had quit in 2016 due to hearing loss, and was temporary replaced by Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses, while Williams retired in 2017.
This will be Rudd’s third involvement with the band. He originally played with them from 1975 to 1983, before he re-joined in 1994.
In 2015 he was sentenced to eight months’ house arrest after being charged with drug possession and threatening to kill his personal assistant. He was replaced by former AC/DC drummer Chris Slade.
Uncle-and-nephew guitarists Angus Young and Stevie Young are still in the line-up. Stevie replaced Angus’s brother Malcolm in 2014, after Malcolm was diagnosed with dementia. Malcolm Young died in 2017.
The band’s last album was 2014’s Rock or Bust and while here has been no official announcement of a new album, the Instagram post’s Pwr Up caption may hint at an album of the same name.
