It's all change at A Question of Sport, with host Sue Barker and team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell departing in a major shake-up of the BBC One show.

Former professional tennis player Barker has been presenting the show for over two decades, taking over from David Coleman in 1997.

"I've absolutely loved my 24 years fronting A Question of Sport, it's been my dream job," said Barker.

"But I understand the BBC want to take the show in a new direction and I'm sad to say goodbye."

Former England rugby player Dawson has been a captain on the show for 16 years. Former international cricketer Tufnell has been with the show for 12 years.

Commenting on Twitter on Sunday morning, Dawson wrote: "Thanks for all the lovely messages. I'm not sure how to respond so I'll have a think... Needless to say I will miss @QuestionofSport immensely."

The Press Association reports that the trio's final series together will be broadcast next year. A new line-up has yet to be announced.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show's longest reigning host over the last 23 years, and Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy over 16 and 12 years respectively.

"Together they have ensured A Question of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience.

"Sue, Matt and Phil's final series will be broadcast next year."

Billed by the BBC as "the world's longest running TV sports quiz", A Question of Sport began in January 1970.
