Much-loved turn of the Millennium cartoon trio The Powerpuff Girls are getting a live action reboot from The CW network.

This time around, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are no longer little girls. They're now in their 20s and disillusioned at having lost their childhoods to the superhero game.

When the world once more needs The Powerpuff Girls, the trio have to put their resentment behind them in order to team-up once more and beat the bad guys.

Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody is on board as executive producer on The Powerpuff Girls alongside Heather Regnier, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden.

The original show began life on Cartoon Network back in 1998, going on to run for six seasons across a total of 78 episodes, with various spin-offs including a movie, then turning up across various different media.

Playful, fun, and with a satirical wink in its eye, The Powerpuff Girls quickly became a favourite of cartoon fans of all ages.

It was the last cartoon produced by the legendary Hanna-Barbera studio, which was closed in 2001 after co-founder William Hanna's death.
