There's the story of The Great Book of Ireland, highlights from Live at Apollo, A League of Their Own returns - and there’s the season finale of Condor 2 . . .

Pick of the Day

The Great Book of Ireland, 10.10pm, RTÉ One

This is the story of the extraordinary 278-page vellum manuscript The Great Book of Ireland (Leabhar Mór na hÉireann).

Conceived in 1989, the book includes contributions from artists, poets, writers and composers which sum up their hopes and fears for the future; thoughts they believe will resonate in a thousand years - as the longevity of vellum allows.

The volume includes Samuel Beckett's last handwritten poem, as well as works by Seamus Heaney and Michael D Higgins - the current President of Ireland.

Don't Miss

The Directors, 9.00pm, Sky Arts & NOW TV

One of the most significant figures in Hollywood’s Golden Age, Mervyn Leroy was responsible for launching the careers of Clark Gable, Robert Mitchum and Edward G. Robinson, as well as being the one to greenlight The Wizard of Oz.

As a director, he is perhaps best remembered for the classic gangster film Little Cesar and his Academy Award nominations for Quo Vadis, Blossoms in the Dust and Random Harvest, and the classic war film Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.

My favourite is the sublime Mister Roberts:

Next Goal Wins, 10.00pm, Sky Documentaries

One of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. I cannot recommend it too highly, and it will definitely put a smile on your face. And you don't have to be a football to get it.

The story follows the American Samoa football squad, rated the worst performing international side in the world.

The team has famously only scored two goals in 17 years and have lost every single competitive game they have ever played.

Then maverick Dutch coach Thomas Rongen is hired and given the task of guiding them through the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are favourites to win the Champions League following their 8-2 demolition of Barcelona in the quarter-finals, and face PSG in Sunday’s final in Lisbon.

A League of Their Own, 9.00pm, Sky One & NOW TV

The boys are back again as Jamie Redknapp, Freddie Flintoff and Romesh Ranganathan (above) take the helm for the fifteenth series of sports-based trivia, challenges and laughs.

In the first episode, it's Rom taking the helm as the host, keeping a sleepy eye on team captains Jamie and Freddie.

Joining Jamie will be three-time Grand Slam winner and two-time Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray and Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton, while Freddie's team consists of comedians and friends of the show Rob Beckett and Jimmy Carr.

Another chance to see this drama, starring Katherine Kelly and Molly Windsor.

University lecturer Dr Leah Dale has always prided herself on her academic integrity, so when final-year student Rose Vaughan submits a suspiciously top-grade essay, Leah is quick to call her out.

But there's more going on than meets the eye as Rose takes the challenge as a personal affront, and what begins as a seemingly open-and-shut case of academic deception soon spirals out of control.
