Veteran US television presenter Regis Philbin has died at the age of 88.
Philbin's family released a statement to announce that he had died, saying: "We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday.
"For his warmth, his legendary sense of humour, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about.
"We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss."
Philbin was best known for his Live! with Regis talkshow on US television. He first hosted alongside Kathie Lee Gifford, then later with Kelly Ripa.
Philbin retired in 2011 after a 23-year run on the show. Ripa continued the show without him, with American football player Michael Strahan taking his place. Ryan Seacrest now co-hosts with Ripa.
From 1999 to 2002, Philbin hosted Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and he also presented the first season of America’s Got Talent.
