Actor Mel Gibson spent a week in hospital earlier this year after contracting coronavirus, his representatives have confirmed.

The 64-year-old star, who lives in Los Angeles, was admitted to hospital in April of this year.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph Australia, his spokesperson said: "He tested positive in April and spent a week in the hospital. 

"He was treated with the drug Remdesivir, while in the hospital, and has tested negative numerous times since then as well as positive for the antibodies."

Other prominent actors to have contracted coronavirus include Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Pink, Idris Elba, Marianne Faithfull and Olga Kurylenko.
