Irish stars Aisling Bea and Michael Harte triumphed at Friday night's British Academy Television Craft Awards.

Kildare native Bea won the Breakthrough Talent award for her comedy-drama This Way Up, which follows a teacher trying to pull her life back together after having a nervous breakdown.

The 36-year-old Irish comedian, actor, and screenwriter said that receiving the award is an "absolute dream come true" and dedicated it to her father who "didn't get to be any older than I am today".

Donegal man Michael Harte scooped an award in the Editing: Factual category for Netflix's mind-boggling documentary Don't F*** With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer.

The docu-series tells the story of one of Canada's most infamous crimes, the murder of Lin Jun. Lin was killed by Luka Magnotta, who courted internet infamy before the murder by circulating videos of himself killing kittens.

The award ceremony, which celebrates technical achievement, was hosted by actor and comedian Stephen Mangan.

Mangan appeared at the start of the digital Bafta ceremony wearing pyjama bottoms and a dinner jacket.

Chernobyl was the big winner at the virtual ceremony with the Sky and HBO drama scooping seven awards.

The nuclear disaster series beat competition including The Crown, Killing Eve and The Virtues at the pre-recorded ceremony, triumphing in categories including Director: Fiction for Johan Renck. Other wins included best Production Design and Editing: Fiction.
