It is reported that Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey is working on a new dance film with fans hoping it could be a follow-up to the 1987 phenomenon.

US entertainment trade website Deadline, which first reported the story, said that Grey will star in and executive produce the 1990s-set film.

"While details are being kept quiet, there's some rumblings that a new Dirty Dancing movie could be in the works," said Deadline. "Sources aren't confirming, but they aren't putting the idea in a corner either."

1987's Dirty Dancing, which starred Grey opposite the late Patrick Swayze, cost $5m to make and took $218m worldwide. It has since become a hit stage show. A 2004 big screen sequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, starring Diego Luna and Romola Garai, took nearly $28m around the globe.
