Dublin-based rockers MYTH have just released their new single, 1:45. We ask them the BIG questions.

Tell us three things about yourselves?
Gavin Wynne (guitar): I love to cycle around the mountains. I've a small black dog called Layla who is named after the Eric Clapton song. I've a Masters in Musicology.

Tiarnán McCarville (drums): I started my music career off by playing trad violin. I fly airplanes in my spare time and love, love, love a decent cup of coffee.

Alex Webb (vocals, violin): I am a student nurse in the Mater Hospital. I love reading and like to go on walks with my dog Toby.

Gary Norman (bass): When I was 11-years-old I saw the Pixies live and it changed my life. I like books. I'm not very good at talking about myself.

How would you describe your music?
Our music has been described as somewhere between Jefferson Airplane and Tool, if that makes sense. For us, we just love writing music with heavy riffs, fat backbeats and haunting vocal melodies.

Who are your musical inspirations?
Our main inspirations are Howlin' Wolf, Jefferson Airplane, Paramore, The National, Trivium, Sigur Rós, Meshuggah, Bob Dylan, Kate Tempest, Jonny Greenwood, Little Green Cars, The Roots, Miles Davis, Guns N' Roses and Otis Redding.

How have you been occupying yourselves during the coronavirus lockdown?
Alex: I am on a nursing internship in the Mater Hospital and in my free time I've been relaxing, catching up with mates and going on walks with my doggo.

Gavin: I've been learning to get my mixing and mastering levels up, so my production skills are up to scratch to sell stock music online.

Gary: I teach guitar and bass for a living, so I'm doing a lot of online classes. As well as that, the lockdown has been an opportunity to get back into practising myself. I'm playing three or four hours of music most days, hoping to get the 10,000 hours in before the pubs open again.

Tiarnán: I have been renovating our rehearsal studio with my dad and walking my dog - but it's Kildare and the bog so it's hard to know when you would have been breaking the 5km restriction. Thankfully, that's gone now. I cracked halfway through March and bought a MIDI keyboard so I can write with the guys online and recently started back up working in health centres and hospitals across the country.

What are your favourite songs right now ?
Gavin: Gold by Koven.

Alex: Hayley Williams, Leave It Alone

Gary: Walking in the Snow from the new Run the Jewels album.

Tiarnán: Aimée Steven, Darling.

Favourite lyrics of all time?
Tiarnán: Otis Redding, That's How Strong My Love Is:
"If I was the sun way up there
I'd go with love most everywhere
I'll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I'm still around"

Gavin: I Am Colossus by Meshuggah.

Alex: The National, England:
"Put an ocean and a river between everybody else
Between everything, yourself and home
Put an ocean and a river
Between everything, yourself and home"

Gary: I love lyrics, so it's impossible to choose, but Townes Van Zandt has a tune called I'll Be Here in the Morning that's a beautifully grounded love song:
"There is nothin' that's as real
As a love that's in my mind...
Well, there's lots of things along the road
I'd surely like to see
I'd like to lean into the wind
And tell myself I'm free
But your softest whisper's louder
Than the highways call to me
Close your eyes
I'll be here in the morning"

If you could only listen to one song each for the rest of your lives what would that song be?
Gavin: High Hopes by Pink Floyd.

Tiarnán: Estranged by Guns N' Roses. I've got an emotional connection to this song. But yeah: the bridge gets me every time, gives you that good music feeling.

Gary: While My Guitar Gently Weeps by The Beatles. It's near a perfect song. The arrangement is spellbinding and the guitar playing is incredible. I can't imagine ever not wanting to hear it.
