Margot Robbie is set to lead the cast of a female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Plot details have yet to be release but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is not intended to tie in with the Johnny Depp-starring franchise.

It is expected that the film will feature an entirely new set of characters and tell a new story.

The film is being written by Christina Hodson, who also worked with Robbie on Birds of Prey. The two recently joined forces to launch a program for women interested in writing action movies.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer will also produce this version, which is still in development.
