The popular American 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls has come under scrutiny for an episode featuring a scene with two characters in blackface.

In an episode entitled Mixed Feelings, which first aired in March 1988, Dorothy's son is marrying an older black woman and Dorothy disapproves, as does the mother of the black woman.

Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) can be seen testing out a new mud face treatment. The two greet the family with their masks still on, saying, "This is mud on our faces, we're not really Black."

The streaming network Hulu has removed the episode from their catalogue.

Many streaming services, film companies, and television networks are removing problematic content from their back catalogues in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
