Dizzee Rascal has clashed with Piers Morgan on live television after the journalist and presenter persisted in asking the rapper questions about the on-going Black Lives Matter protests.

Dizzee appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning to talk about his upcoming drive-in gigs but Morgan, who has recently won praise for his stance on US police brutality and the British government’s handling of Covid-19, started questioning him about Black Lives Matter.

Morgan and GMB co-host Susanna Reid has been talking about the introduction of drive-in raves, but the ever-combative Morgan turned the conversation to Dizzee’s views on "what Black Lives matter actually means".

However, the rapper refused to comment on the situation, and asked Morgan: "What makes you think I know? Am I the black spokesperson?"

He added that, while he has "a bunch of views", he felt that "now is not the time" to discuss them.

"I’ve brought my afro out, I’m looking a bit natural and so maybe that’s why you’re asking the question, but not today," he said.

Morgan defended himself and said: "That’s not why I’m asking you the question. You’re a high-profile black man in this country, and it’s been a huge issue and has been a huge news story for four weeks."

Dizzee replied: "You know what, I watch you on telly and you never let no one speak. You’re not going to do this to me, mate. Let’s keep it calm."

After Morgan called his response "aggressive", Dizzee laughed and replied: "This is what happens - I become the aggressive black man! I just wanted to be nice, and look how he’s behaving."

The rapper has been praised by viewers of the show, with one tweeting, "Dizzee Rascal has made everyone’s morning. I love watching Piers Morgan squirm for once. Totally owned haha."

Another added: "I’m so happy the way Dizzee Rascal called out Piers Morgan for asking him about BLM on GMB – why does every white host ask every black person about BLM, but not white people?!"

"Dizzee Rascal what a bloke," another viewer said. "Sticking Piers Morgan in his place whilst fishing to stir up more issues when he’s got positive things to talk about."
