The American comedian and activist D.L. Hughley has said that he has tested positive for Covid-19 after collapsing during a show in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday.

Hughley posted a video to social media on Saturday as he was about to be released from hospital, saying that he was asymptomatic and would now self-isolate in his hotel room for 14 days.

The 57-year-old said he was initially treated for "extreme exhaustion and dehydration".

"They ran a battery of tests, and I also tested positive for Covid-19, which blew me away," he continued. "Apparently, I just lost consciousness. So, in addition to all the other stuff you have to look out for, if your a** pass out in the middle of a show, onstage, you probably need to get tested."

He thanked staff at St Thomas Hospital for the care he had received and fans for "your well wishes and your prayers". "And you comedians, who called and said such evil things when I was scared to death, thank you too," he added.
