Fresh from having Jennifer Aniston share his quarantine take on The Friends theme tune, Magherafelt singer JC Stewart has released his new single, I Need You to Hate Me. We asked him the BIG questions.
The song was inspired by the same break-up that JC explored in his earlier single Have You Had Enough Wine?
"There was a moment where we were just going through the motions," he recalls. "And I was like, 'Instead of doing this, I'd rather that you hated me because there’d be something more to cling on to.’ The vibe was that we were really drifting apart."
Tell us three things about yourself?
I’m taller than you think, 6’ 3", and have little to no hand eye co-ordination.
For some unknown reason, I sneeze when I eat too much food. It’s incredibly annoying for everyone around me.
I’m a secret nerd and absolutely love flags and everything to do with them.
How would you describe your music?
Depressing pop music.
Who are your musical inspirations?
The Killers, Fun, Tom Waits, Coldplay, Snow Patrol.
How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?
Writing, eating good food, making parody videos that no one should ever watch, Zoom quizzes, getting sunburnt.
What’s your favourite song right now?
If you’re too shy - The 1975.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"In a land there's a town, and in that town there's a house
And in that house there's a woman
And in that woman there's a heart I love
I'm gonna take it with me when I go."
Tom Waits
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance. TUNE.
Where can people find your music/more information?
All the usual spots. I reckon my aunties are the best source of information on me at this point though.
