The move comes after protests erupted in the United States following the death of an African American man, George Floyd, in police custody last week.
In the US, the day is being marked by radio shows going silent and TV music channels going dark. Music streaming service Spotify is adding eight minutes and 46 seconds of silence to select playlists and podcasts, the same length of time a white Minneapolis policeman was filmed kneeling on the neck of Mr Floyd.
There was a mixed reaction to her post:
One of her followers @itsmikejoseph said: "Do y'all know that two black women started the blackout? Do y'all know that people in the industry are taking the time to listen to their black employees and having discussions centred around change."
Another @joneslateiy said: "Macy Girl. It's called Solidarity. And remember Rome was not built in a day." Agreeing @saraaathornton said: "I agree!!! Not the time to blackout! We have to be careful of things like this." Another follower @sasseymom said "Yesssss! To(o) much happening in the world right now to black out."
