The acclaimed actor Michael Angelis, best known for his roles as the narrator of children's favourite Thomas & Friends and in the classic TV series Boys from the Blackstuff, GBH and The Liver Birds, has died.
Angelis' agent said the screen veteran died suddenly at his home in the UK on Saturday.
Angelis narrated Thomas & Friends for 13 series and many audiobooks, taking over from fellow Liverpudlian Ringo Starr in 1991 when the series was called Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
He memorably played Chrissie Todd in Boys from the Blackstuff, Martin Niarchos in GBH and Lucien Boswell in The Liver Birds.
His many other TV credits included Auf Wiedersehen, Pet; September Song, The Bill, Heartbeat, A Touch of Frost, Casualty and Holby City.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Khalastchi. Angelis was previously married to Coronation Street star Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt in the ITV soap.
