Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones said she is struggling to process her newfound fame and has compared her public profile to a ''simulated video game''.

The 22-year-old actress, who plays Marianne Sheridan in the much-loved drama, which airs on RTÉ One on Tuesday nights, admits she has found it difficult to process reviews and comments about the show amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Dermot O'Leary on his Radio 2 show, the actress, who is living in London with her boyfriend Tom Varey, said "it has been strange experiencing" a surreal level of fame "all from my bedroom".

''I haven't been able to really kind of process the fact that I can see articles online talking about me, it feels a bit like a simulated video game on my phone," she said.

"It's very surreal.''

Paul Mescal recently announced he is giving away Connell Waldron's famous chain from the critically-acclaimed show in order to raise funds for Pieta.

Normal People continues on RTÉ One on Tuesday nights.
