Chart-topping singer Lewis Capaldi has officially confirmed that he's in a relationship and that his girlfriend is a "redhead" with a "posh voice".

The 23-year-old Scottish singer revealed the news during a live video chat with a fan, adding that he's never "been happier", reports The Scottish Sun.

During the Zoom call, Caplaldi was asked whether he prefers being single or being in a relationship, and replied, "Well, I'm in a relationship so if I said the other one, my girlfriend would kill me.

Capaldi: "I’ve never been happier."

"I've never told anybody that I'm in a relationship, so there you go. It's an exclusive for you, right here right now."

The Scottish Sun first reported in February that Capaldi, who is currently readying his new album, was seeing 21-year-old Aberdeen student Catherine Halliday, and he added, "She's got red hair, she's got quite a posh voice. And that's that, that's all you're getting.

"The thing is, you backed me into a corner. If I'd said [I prefer] 'being single', I would never have heard the end of it. So there you go."

However, the couple, who met through friends, have been living apart during lockdown. During his Zoom call, Capaldi said, "I finished my tour the week before quarantine started, and she was here for that.

"And then when we heard we were going into quarantine, the day before quarantine started, she was going back up [home]."

He also joked that their current situation was a good idea because he can be a bit of handful. "I'm not good to be around that often. Like a little ten-minute spell, keep me there, great.

"I think for everyone's sanity it's good if it's just little doses. Take me in doses."
