Bob Dylan has announced Rough and Rowdy Ways, his first album of original songs in eight years and he's also released False Prophet, a new song from the forthcoming record.
The new album, Dylan’s 39th, will be released on June 19, and follows three albums of well-received records of cover versions, and his last album of original songs, Tempest in 2012.
78-year-old Dylan, who played Nowlan Park in Kilkenny with Neil Young last July, has released three songs from the new record over the past few weeks, including the inscrutable Murder Most Foul, at 17 minutes, his longest song ever.
New song False Prophet is a far more rumbustious affair, with Dylan growling, "I ain’t no false prophet / I just said what I said / I’m just here to bring vengeance on somebody’s head."
The veteran singer was due to tour Japan in April, but was forced to cancel the concerts due to the coronavirus outbreak.
