Actor Sam Lloyd, who was best known for playing lawyer Ted Buckland on medical comedy Scrubs, has died at the age of 56.

In January 2019, Lloyd was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and cancer in January 2019, just weeks after his wife, Vanessa, gave birth to their first child.

Lloyd had a successful thirty-year career in TV and film, appearing in Desperate Housewives, Seinfeld, Modern Family, The West Wing, Cougar Town, Malcolm in the Middle and Shameless, and films such as Flubber and Galaxy Quest.

He was also a musician, singing in a cappella group The Blanks, who made several appearances on Scrubs as The Worthless Peons, and played bass guitar in The Butties, a Beatles tribute band.

He was also planning to direct a country rock musical entitled With Pam and Gil, which was put on hold when he fell ill.

Sharing a behind-the-scenes photo of Lloyd on Twitter, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, said, "Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many."

The late actor's Scrubs co-star Zach Braff also posted a tribute, which said, "Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with. Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together.

"He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

Braff also posted a video of Lloyd’s a cappella group singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
