Richard Gere and wife welcome second child

Richard Gere and his wife Alejandra Silva are reported to be celebrating the birth of their second child.

According to Spanish magazine Hola!, the actor, 70, and his activist wife, 37, have welcomed a son and are spending time on their ranch on Pound Ridge, just outside New York.

The new arrival is the second child for the couple, following the birth of Alexander, who arrived early last year.

Gere also has a 20-year-old son, Homer, with ex-wife Carey Lowell, while Alejandra has a seven-year-old son with ex-husband Govind Friedland.

The actor and the activist married in 2018 and have remained very private about their personal lives.

However, speaking to Hello!, Gere said, "I’m married to a beautiful women who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook, and who makes the best salads in the world.

"Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel…and she’s also Spanish: the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Buñuel… You can’t get any better than that.’

Speaking about her husband Alejandra added: ‘He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love! ‘How would you feel if each morning you were asked: "What would make you happy today?" Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.’
