George and Amal Clooney have donated $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts, dividing their donation between six different organizations and charities.

The human rights activist and her actor husband's donation will help food banks and emergency services.

According to Arab News, the couple has donated $250,000 to the SAG-AFTRA fund, the Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles and The Motion Picture & Television home. The latter is a retirement community for industry workers and elderly professionals working in entertainment and Clooney serves as one of its board members.

The celebrity couple donated another $300,000 to the Lebanese Food Bank, to help single mothers and the elderly and vulnerable who are unable work due to the pandemic. The couple also donated $300,000 to the NHS, and to the Lombardo Italy Region, which will help hospitals in the region that have been badly affected by the coronavirus.

Both the Lebanese Food Bank and Lombardo Italy Region have personal resonance for the Clooneys. Amal is of Lebanese–British descent and the couple live in Italy for much of the year.

A number of other celebrities have made substantial financial donations to coronavirus relief efforts, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Taylor Swift.
