Actor Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed that his mother Shirley Douglas has died.
The 24 star tweeted the news, revealing that his mother, who was both a well-known actress and activist, had died due to pneumonia complications that were not related to Covid-19.
He said: "My mother was an extraordinary woman who led an extraordinary life. Sadly she had been battling for her health for quite some time and we, as a family, knew this day was coming.
"To any families who have lost loved ones unexpectedly to the coronavirus, my heart breaks for you. Please stay safe."

Douglas, who was born in Canada, had just celebrated her 86th birthday on Thursday.
She shared Kiefer and his twin sister Rachel with ex-husband Donald Sutherland. They were married from 1966 - 1970.
She is also survived by her son Thomas from her first marriage to Timothy Emil Sicks.
